Atlanta Children's Shelter
Founded in 1986 in Midtown Atlanta, Atlanta Children's Shelter (ACS) was established to provide free childcare to children under the age of 5 whose families are homeless. While older children can go to school during the day, freeing their parents to look for work, finding young childcare can prove to be a barrier to parents who want to get back on their feet.
The primary service offered by ACS is a nationally accredited, high-quality daycare education. Although the children are the main focus of the organization, ACS aims to reestablish the self-sufficiency of the family by offering support to parents as well. Workforce deployment programs and scholarships offered by ACS give parents the opportunity to find sustainable employment. Once a job is secured, the shelter continues to support the family with childcare and housing assistance for 1 year, at which point the official relationship with the shelter ends, although the personal relationships usually last a lifetime.
Currently, ACS has the capacity to support 40 children, but their plans for new funding are to expand their classrooms. This is where you can help! Support our goal to raise $10,000 for Atlanta Children's Shelter through our bake sale, silent auction, and Top Golf tournament, and make a difference in the lives of people who need help most in our area. Who We Are: Co-ops and Interns Network -Chipping in for Children Committee-
The Co-op and Intern Network (COIN) of Kimberly-Clark: Roswell is an employee resource group (ERG) under NEON, the New Employee Opportunity Network. The purpose of our group is to provide professional development, community engagement, and social opportunities for co-ops and interns while working at Kimberly-Clark.
A long-standing tradition of the summer co-op group is to hold a charity golf fundraiser to support a local non-profit organization. In the first year, summer 2004, the tournament was called "Putts for Pets" and approximately $1,600 was raised for a local humane shelter. The program grew dramatically in 2005, with the introduction of the "Chipping In For Children" tournament. That year the group raised a little over $8,000 for the Atlanta Children’s Shelter! Since then, ACS has been our partner organization for this event, and the name stuck as well. The event has been continued as a tradition at the Roswell campus with many years' groups raising over $10,000. Our goal is to maintain the success of this event, but we can't do this without your support! Donate or participate in our events to help us meet our goal to raise money for a very worthy charity!
What We Do: The Tournament
The top golf tournament consists of teams of 6 taking 20 shots each to score points based on their landing location on the range. The highest team score wins the tournament. Mulligans will be offered to boost scoring at additional cost to earn more money for the children. A pro golfer will be at the event to facilitate and monitor. A meal will also be provided at the event.
The tournament is from 1-4 pm on Sunday, July 29th, 2018 at Top Golf - Alpharetta. We want to thank all our participants and sponsors for their support of this event to raise money for homeless children in Atlanta.
